Internships
Internships
Internship Programme – The Department of Chemistry is committed to providing students with meaningful experiential learning opportunities through a structured internship programme integrated into the B.Sc. Chemistry (Hons.) curriculum. These internships are designed to bridge classroom learning with practical exposure, helping students develop professional skills, scientific aptitude, and industry awareness.
Students of the B.Sc. Chemistry (Hons.) programme undertake mandatory internships during both the first and second years of study.
First-Year Internship (30 Hours)
In the first year, students complete a 30-hour mandatory internship, which is non-curriculum based in nature. This introductory internship is aimed at familiarizing students with professional environments, laboratory practices, industrial settings, and emerging opportunities in real-world contexts. It encourages students to explore areas of interest and gain preliminary exposure beyond the classroom.
Second-Year Internship (120 Hours)
In the second year, students undertake a 120-hour credited internship, which is curriculum-based and carries academic credits. This internship offers in-depth experiential learning aligned with the academic programme and enables students to apply theoretical concepts in the field of chemistry and allied sciences. Through hands-on training and guided engagement, students gain valuable practical knowledge and professional competencies relevant to higher studies and careers in chemistry.
Internship Opportunities and Mentorship
The department facilitates internship opportunities through collaborations with a range of institutions, research centres, laboratories, and industries with which it has established Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs). These partnerships provide students access to diverse professional environments and specialized training opportunities.
Students also enthusiastically seek internship possibilities independently, reflecting initiative, curiosity, and a proactive approach to learning. Such self-driven engagements further enrich the academic experience and expose students to a wider spectrum of professional settings. Faculty members play an active mentoring role in guiding students in their selection process.
Through this vibrant internship ecosystem, the Department of Chemistry seeks to nurture scientific curiosity, strengthen practical competence, and prepare students to become skilled and industry-ready graduates.
