Palliative Day Celebrations : “Snehasangamam 2019”

KERALA PALLIATIVE CARE DAY CELEBRATIONS 2018

In relation with World palliative day, St.Teresa’s Community College in association with Government Hospital Ernakulam, Kanivu Palliative Care unit and IMA organized a whole day family get-together and cultural activities for palliative patients on 15th January 2019. About 100 patients including patients in the wheelchair, mentally retarded, autistic and others suffering from long term illness and their family members attended the function.

The family gathering “Snehasangamam”, cultural and sports events was inaugurated by the respected Mayor of Cochin Corporation Smt.Soumini Jain. Also, a Palliative Programme pledge was taken by the whole gathering. Events like a flash mob, skits, naadan pattu, and games for the palliative patients like Wheelchair race, Bombing in the city, Ball in the basket, Passing the gift etc. was arranged for their entertainment. The crowd was also motivated by the inspiring speech of Mr Joseph Annamkutty Jose.

The Public meeting was inaugurated by the honourable MLA Shri. Hibi Eden. This prestigious occasion was filled with the presence of distinguished persons Dr.N K. Kuttappan, District Medical Officer, Dr Ajitha Superintendent GH Ernakulam, Smt. Annie PG, Medical Officer GH Ernakulam, Dr Mathews M Numpeli, NHM, Dr Sr. Vinitha, Director St.Teresa’s College Ernakulam, Dr.Sajimol Augustine M. Principal St.Teresa’s College Ernakulam; Kanivu Palliative Care President Mr Shahul Hameed; Smt. Vincy Vincent, St.Teresas Community College, Dr Nisha Vikraman, Asst. Professor, Home Science.

Lunch and refreshments are arranged at free of cost. A food kit was provided for everyone present over there. Ganamela by  “Freedom on Wheels” was also arranged which enthralled everyone present over there. The celebrations were concluded by 4.30pm with the talent shows of differently able. It was an awesome and unforgettable event for both the patients and the Volunteers.

We are sure that it had made both the patients, volunteers that included students happier and makes them think the value of life. How precious their life is? How much the Lord Almighty had blessed them? Thus 15th January 2019 was an unforgettable day for the Teresians.
