The activities of TROP (Teresian Rural Outreach Programme) for the year 2014-2015 was carried out at St. Teresa’s Girls’ Home under the leadership of Dr. AlphonsaVijaya Joseph. The Home hosts 40 students studying in classes from 1st to 12 th standard. The children are from rural areas and many of them come from separated families. From the discussions conducted with Sr. Ansleena CSST., it was identified that the inmates require assistance in their regular classroom learning and also inputs related to life skill development. The students along with the staff coordinator visited the orphanage in September and spent an afternoon with the inmates. The day witnessed both the students and the inmates having fun and enjoyment through various games and cultural activities. This interaction was well appreciated by the inmates as they were able to develop an intense rapport with the students which was evident throughout the programme in terms of involvement and participation by all the inmates. Thereafter the students had frequent informal visits and interactions with the inmates which helped to develop a strong bond between the inmates and the students. The inmates were given training on basic ethical practices, health and hygiene. They were trained in the art of jewellery making, glass painting, quilling and creating wealth from waste materials. The inmates were also given opportunity to display their extracurricular talents and the programmes put up by them were well appreciated. The TROP activities of the department have created a sense of moral commitment and social responsibility in the students which indeed would help them accomplish the vision and mission of the college.
