Training programme on Herbarium Techniques

A training programme on Herbarium Techniques was conducted on 26-3- 2018 for III UG (VI Semester) in the Botany Laboratory, Science Block, St. Teresa’s College. The aim of the workshop was to introduce the concept of plant preservation techniques and their significance to III UG students and give them hands on training on the method. Mr. Arjun Thomas, Herbarium Keeper, Department of Botany, St. Albert’s College, Ernakulam was the resource person. Thirty nine students of III B.Sc. Botany benefitted from the programme. The objectives of the programme include – understanding the significance of dry preservation and the preparation and maintenance of herbaria. They were able to understand the techniques for making good plant herbaria. They were also trained during the workshop to prepare herbaria of lower plants especially algae (Sea weeds), medicinal plants, pathological specimens, garden plants as well as wild plants.
