Botanical Drawings
The department of Botany organized a workshop on Botanical Drawings on 15-12-2018 for the II UG students (IV Semester) by Dr. Manu Dev, Assistant Professor in Botany, Devagiri College, Calicut. The class helped train the students to make Botanical illustrations based on the observation of living plant material, reconstitution of dry plant material if possible, inspection of plant features using a microscope, accurate measurement of the different parts of the plant. The class provided the necessary advice as to what aspects to emphasize. A very good understanding of the morphology of the plant – shapes and forms are a great help in distinguishing one plant from another, identification of the key (unique) features of the plant – at different stages of its life cycle and making drawings of the plant parts scientifically were the aspects that were detailed in the workshop and the students were given hands on training.
