A Campaign On Menstrual Hygiene

The Department of Communicative English, St.Teresa’s College, Ernakulam takes great pleasure in launching ‘Stain the Stigma 2017’, a Public Relations Campaign on menstrual hygiene and the taboo associated with it.

Social activist and RJ Mr Joseph Annamkutty Jose released the logo of the campaign and marked the official launch of the PR campaign in the Arts Block at St. Teresa’s College. Mr Joseph spoke about the need for dispelling the shame and stigma on the subject. He pointed out that men needed to be made aware of menstruation at the right age and in the right manner. “Women are the most fitting teachers for this task,” he said. A Public Relations Campaign is held every year by the Final Year students of the Department of Communicative English as part of the curriculum. This year, the campaign aims at raising awareness on the need for menstrual hygiene and removing the social stigma around the subject.

As part of the campaign, the students have been conducting awareness sessions for children between the age group of 12 and 17 in various schools and other institutions in and around the city. The sessions include a skit/video, a talk by a renowned Resource Person and an interactive session. Sessions have already been conducted at the following Institutions:

Govt. High School and Higher Secondary School, Elamakkara

Our Lady’s Convent Girls Higher Secondary School, Thoppumpady

CCPLM, Thevara

Rajagiri Higher Secondary School, Kalamassery

KPRGS Govt. Higher Secondary School, Kalliasseri, Kannur
