In continuation with the Consumer Club initiative, the Department of Commerce conducted a seminar on consumer rights on 23rd January 2019. It was presented by the students of I B.Com. The purpose of the seminar was to shed light on various consumer rights and the need for consumer awareness.
The seminar started with the students explaining what consumer protection is, who is a consumer and the need for such protection. They then moved on to explain the difference between a consumer and a customer and the various malpractices adopted by sellers in the market.
They also explained the legal protection available to consumers, the most important of which was the Consumer Protection Act 1986. The Act was explained in a simple yet comprehensive manner and they also brought to light the various consumer rights. Each of these rights was elucidated by the students and the importance of these rights in the lives of the consumers was also illustrated. All in all, it was a thoroughly enjoyable session and was educational as well.
