1.ABLE (Activity Based Learning in English) 2017-2018

The Department of Communicative English organized a one month teaching programme, ABLE(Activity Based Learning in English), for the second year B.A. Communicative  English students. The objective of the programme was to impart communication skills and to cultivate an interest in the English language. The one-hour teaching programme was conducted on a daily basis at the Government High School for Girls, Chittoor. A total of 18 students volunteered for the initiative. Two to three volunteers were assigned to each class. A number of activities were taken up by the student teachers to make learning fun, interactive and interesting for the students. Activities like word-building games, action songs, hangman, storytelling, and quizzes were conducted. Training sessions on public speaking, social etiquette, self-introduction and, writing and listening were taken up. The students actively participated and co-operated with the student teachers. The programme was aimed at children between the classes, 1-4.

2.  AMAARA

Amaara Foundation is a volunteer-based non-profit organization that works towards empowering children from underprivileged backgrounds. They have been working with various government schools for the past six years, offering classes on life-skills and Spoken English, providing the deserving students with other tangible benefits. Presently Amaara offers its services in four schools in Kochi: MAHS, Kakkanad, GUPS, Padamugal; RLV School, Thripunithura; LMCC Pachalam.

CLASSES: 4th, 5th , 6th and 7th

DATES: 19 and 20 February 2018

OBJECTIVE: The main objective of the programme is to improve the language and communication skills of the students. Activity-based learning methods would be practiced to enhance their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. It also is aimed at giving the students an exposure to teaching.

NEED OF THE PLACE:  To teach the students basic communication skills in English and various aspects related to the subject through interactive sessions.
