National seminar

The Department of Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics organized  a National Seminar on”The Keto Fad: A Critical Approach to Phenomenon” on 18th February 2019 at Seminar Hall, Science Block, St. Teresa’s College, Ernakulam. The inter collegiate  seminar was opened to many students, teachers, working dietitians , alumni etc, apart from talks from the eminent personalities there were quiz competitions, poster competition as well as debate.

The main aim of seminar was to make people understand about the ill effect of ketogenic  diet ,ketogenic diet is a special high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet that helps to control seizures in some people with epilepsy but nowadays some patients follow this diet for weight reduction and thus it do causes may side effects . This is seminar bought an insight on the recent trend of practicing  of ketogenic diet as a means of weight reduction .The seminar was inaugurated by  Dr. Sr. Vinitha, Director, St.Teresa’ College and was followed by the fruitful  sessions of  resource persons Ms. Lakshmy Priya S, Assistant Professor, School of Food Science, M. O. P. Vaishnav College for Women (Autonomous), Nungambakkam, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Ms. Parimala Devi Kumara Swamy, Head, Parims Nutrition, Coimbatore and Dr. Jyothish R. Nair, MD, Consultant, Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre, Ernakulam and quiz was conducted by Mumtaz. K. Ismail, Senior Dietician General Hospital Ernakulam.
