To educate students about the significance of Montreal Protocol and motivate them to take specific actions that are needed to protect the Earth’s ozone layer, On the 26th of September 2019, the Department of Zoology organized a talk in connection with world ozone day which is observed on the 16th of September every year. The resource person was Dr. Anu Gopinath. She is the author of 7 books and high impact journal publications.  Currently, the Assistant professor of chemical Oceanography at Kerala University of fisheries and ocean studies (KUFOS).

The program began with a soulful prayer song by Nandha Sathesh of 3rd DC followed by welcome speech by Nithyashree J K of 3rd DC. Dr. Anu gave a talk on subjects related to ozone that celebrates over 3 decades of remarkable international co-operation to protect the ozone layer and climate under the Montreal Protocol. The speaker went on to talk about how the Montreal Protocol led to the phase out of 99% of ozone depleting chemicals life CFC, HFC etc. She also briefed the Audience on various consequences and current status of ozone layer depletion, good and bad ozone and the relentless efforts of organizations throughout the world. It was a very informative and educative talk.

The talk was followed by a question answer session where the students interacted and broadened their awareness. The hour long program commenced with vote of thanks by Aswathy A R, the Association Secretary.
