STATE LEVEL SEMINAR ON FIRST AID AND SAFETY TECHNIQUES- FAST 2018

The Postgraduate department of Chemistry, St. Teresa’s College organized a State Level Workshop for Laboratory Staff on “First Aid and Safety Techniques, FAST 2018”, at the college. The workshop included four sessions –  Safe working with Laboratory Glasswares, Safety Measures and General Precautions for Avoiding Accidents on Chemical Laboratory, First Aid for Laboratory Accidents, Biosafety in Biolabs.

The resource persons were Mr. Sanish Michael (Area Sales Manager- South, Borosil Glass Works Limited), Mr. Vinod Kumar GK (General Manger, Quality Assurance and R &D, Nice chemical Pvt. Ltd.), Dr. Jude Martin Mendez, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, St. Albert’s College, Ernakulam and Dr. Alphonsa Vijaya Joseph (Associate Professor, Department of Botany, St. Teresa’s College). 67 Laboratory staff from various colleges attended the workshop.

A poster on First Aid in Laboratory prepared by Miss Sicily Rilu Joseph (Guest Lecturer), Miss Smithamol K J (Laboratory Assistant, Chemistry Department) was released by College Director, Dr. Sr. Vinetha during the inaugural session. A booklet on First Aid and Safety Techniques in Laboratory prepared by faculty of the college, Dr. Saritha Chandran A, Dr. Ushamani M, Dr. Alphonsa Vijaya Joseph was also released by Principal Dr. Sajimol Augustine. The above booklet and poster were distributed to all participants along with certificate of participation. The participants also visited the science laboratories of  St. Teresa’s College. The workshop was a unique experience to all laboratory staff who attended.
