Orientation for 2019-22 batch

BCA (CLOUD TECHNOLOGY AND INFORMATION SECURITY MANAGEMENT)

21 students attended the 3 day orientation programme organized by BCA Cloud Technology and Information Security Management from 17th June 2019 to 19th June 2019.

The objectives of the Orientation Program were:

  • To ice-break and to ease the interaction among students.
  • To make the students aware of the campus structure and facilities.
  • To create an awareness among the students about their programme and its structure.
  • To make them aware about the career opportunities and enhance their employability.
  • To generate an interest in their specialization areas Cloud technology as well as Info Sec.
  • To make students aware of the rules and regulations of the college.
  • To enable the students work well with the new team.

Summary of lecture debriefs and experiential learning activities

Day 1

Session 1

Session 1

The orientation programme began with a session by Ms. Archana Menon P and it was from 9.30 am to 12.00 pm. The session began with a self-introduction part. The session gave an overall idea about the campus and its happenings and the entire programme structure. The session summarised the whole programme for 3 years, different courses in each semester, mark distribution criteria the details about the open courses provided and their benefits. The session also included internal, external and practical examination patterns. This gave the students an idea about how seriously they should approach their coming classes and examinations.

 

 

   Session 2

Session 2

A session led by Ms. Christina Rajan Thomas was about one of the specialization topic in this programme – the cloud computing. This session mainly focused on the basic things required for a BCA student when she enter in to this course in cloud computing. The students realized that each and everyone in this world come across this cloud technology in their day-to-day life. This session gave them information about how widely this technology is spreading and how fast this sector is building up.

Both the sessions of Day 1 were very useful for a student whose is going to take the first steps in this programme. Every student got a very good idea about the course and the future possibilities of this course.

Session 3

This session on “Career in Information Security” was handled by Ms. Neha Raju K. It was a session completely focussed on the career and importance of Information Security. The session started with the message that one should think of the internet as a public place and one should not leave their details lying around. Some of the incidence that took place in the current world was spoken (eg: Ransomware attack, various data breaches). Various types of attacks and threats were also discussed. Career opportunities in the field of infosec, types of information security jobs, various certifications (National and International) and top cyber security companies were also discussed. Students actively attended the session by asking questions and sharing their ideas.

 

Session 4

The Ice breaking session was handled by Ms Veena Antony. That was an interesting session with all the students to identify the real talent like dancers, singers, artists and so on. In this session, each student take a card and exhibit their talents. Students were very interested in doing these activities without any hesitation. After this session, all the students could identify their friend’s habits and talents. At the end, feedbacks were collected from the students regarding the session.

Session 5

This session was handled by Ms. Mekha Jose. This was an interactive session with students with activities to make them more comfortable in the new class environment and help them to become good team players. Group activity ‘word hunt’ to familiarize with technical term was a part of this session. Various announcements related to college like general rules and regulations of the college, college timings, dress code, use of mobile phones in the campus etc. At the end feed backs were collected from students regarding the three day orientation program.
