Natyakeli 2014 – International Workshop on Performing Arts.

INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON PERFORMING ARTS.[organised by the department of bharathanatyam , St.Teresas College,Ernakulam.]

The department of bharathanatyam, St.Teresas College, Ernakulam organised a two day international workshop on performing arts on 9th and 10th of January 2014. the inaugral ceremony was graced by the blessing of his grace most rev.dr.francis kallarackal [archbishop of verapoly ] and Rev.Fr.V.P. Joseph Valiyaveetil [Director, National Heritage Study Centre, Alappuzha] for the keynote address . on this blessed occassion the presidential address was delivered by Dr.Helan A.P [Principal, St.Teresas College, Ernakulam] ,the welcome address by C.K Sureshkumar [ faculty member, dept.bharathanatyam] and vote of thanks by K.R Radhamani Amma [ H.O.D Bharathanatyam]

After the inaugral ceremony and tea break, an introductory session on the rare indo-european art form, chavittunatakam was carried out by mary lia c.a [ executive member, national heritage study centre]. after the technical session a historical musical dance drama—kaarlsman chavittunatakam was unveiled.after the mesmeric performance the students dispersed for lunch break.

The second technical session started out with the emminent dancer, guru n.v krishnan [director ,bharathanjali,payyannur].he inspired the students with his knowledge and talent. krishnan master taught the students an astapadi from jayadeva’s geetha govindam [ chandana charchita…] which opened new windows for angikaabhinaya.

The second day was a sequel of the terchnical session by krishnan master and the session fulfilled with the completion of the astapadi. after the lunch break, the natyakeli stage was mesmorised by the bharathanatyam recital by the blooming star and french dancer smt. paris laxmi [ disciple of Dr Padma Subramaniam]. her performance paved way for the students to grab the idea of karanas [Natyasastra] and satvikabhinaya [ mirabhajans] in a bharathanatyam recital.
