NATURE CAMP TO PARAMBIKULAM TIGER RESERVE -MARCH 2017

A three day Nature Education Training was conducted for the I PG and II DC Zoology (40)  Students of department of zoology from 28th February to 2nd March 2017. The students were accompanied by 3 teachers Dr. Helvin Vincent, Ms. Nimitha R Chandran and Ms. Karthika M Nair. The  area of the visit is situated a Palakkad district. The Field study was organized as a Nature Camp by Kerala Forest and Wildlife Department and sponsored by the Rotary Club, Kochi. Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary is a reservoir of picturesque greenery enclosed in a valley between the Anamalai ranges of Tamil Nadu and Nelliampathy ranges of Kerala. It is situated in the souther most part of Western Ghats.

On the way to the sanctuary included pit stops at Palghat Gap (Palakkad Churam), Kerala Tamil Nadu border etc. During the three day camp students got the opportunity to get in close association with nature. The camp included various events including nature walk, bird watching sessions, study sessions, trekking, chance to communicate with the local tribes and understand first hand experience of their life in the forest range etc. The students also came across a lot of wild animals their habitat etc. One of the most heart-rending situation was the forest fire that spread from Anamalai ranges of Tamil Nadu. It was a very excruciating experience to see a whole range of natural resources burn down to ashes. The tribal’s and the forest officials did their best to eliminate the disastrous situation. Their love for nature and wildlife is beyond words. All the support and help for the students were provided by the forest oficials and locals of the Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary. Overall it was a wonderful experience for the students.
