‘Moondru Mugham: Portrait of an Actor, Lawyer and Director’, a tete-a-tete with Sri Charuhasan.

On 14th February, 2019, St. Teresa’s College was lucky to host ‘Moondru Mugham: Portrait of an Actor, Lawyer and Director’, a tete-a-tete with a man of many colours, Sri Charuhasan. Born into the reputed ‘Hassan’ family, Sri Charuhasan made his debut as an actor through the Tamil movie Uthiripookal in 1979; only after working as a criminal lawyer for almost three decades. He then went on to do about 120 films in almost all South Indian languages. IPC 215and PuthiyaSangamam are the two movies that earned him the title of a Director.

The programme was jointly organised by the five departments that form the Language Cluster – Department of English, Communicative English, French, Hindi and Malayalam. The event was an hour long and was held at the Arts Block Auditorium. The program began with a Prayer Song followed by a welcome address by Dr.Beena Job, Head of the Department of English. Sri Charuhasan was then presented with a memento by the Director of the college, Rev. Dr. Sr.Vineetha and the Principal, Dr. Sajimol Augustine. The veteran Malayalam film critic and writer, Sri John Paul, a well-wisher and benefactor of the college was also present at the function. This was followed by the interactive session with Sri Charuhasan. As a man who has witnessed the changing face of the Indian Polity and the Indian Cinema, Sri Charuhasan was able to impart a lot of interesting information and anecdotes to the students. He took the students on a stroll down his memory lane starting right from his childhood days in British India, living through the hard times of WWII. The students posed various questions that touched upon his personal life as well as his viewpoints on various societal issues. The event was a huge success.
