DIETERY CHOLESTOROL: CURRENT STATE OF EVIDENCE

Cardiovascular Disease is the number one killer in the world today. Cholesterol plays a detrimental role in CVD by contributing to atherosclerotic plaque formation. In lieu of the above, Department of Home Science and Centre for Research in collaboration with NSI and NetProFan Kochi Chapters with DBT Star college organised an International webinar in commemoration of the World Heart Day on September 29, 2020.The webinar was hosted on the Google Meet platform and was live telecasted on YouTube from 5pm to 7pm on Tuesday. Dr. Anu Joseph, Faculty of the Department welcomed the gathering after which Dr. Lizzy Mathew, Principal, St. Teresa’s College, Ernakulam offered words of felicitation. The resource person for the day was Dr. Deepa Handu, Ph.D., RD, Sr Scientific Director, Evidence Analysis Centre, Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Chicago, USA, well known for her immense expertise in conducting systematic reviews and quantitative analysis in the field of Nutrition. Delegates including academicians, dietitians and students from different parts of the world actively took part in the webinar and various questions, relevant to the topic were addressed.

It was a comprehensive presentation on dietary cholesterol recommendations, dietary intake of cholesterol in India and USA and impact of the same in clinical practice. Dr. Rashmi H. Poojara, Faculty, Department of Home Science and convenor of the webinar proposed the vote of thanks. The entire session was hosted by Smt Nimmi Jacob, Faculty of the department, Co-convenor of the webinar and was moderated by Elizabeth Varghese Anthikkat, MSc Food Science and Nutrition. Feedback from all the delegates was collected though online feedback forms and E-certificates were given to all delegates. The webinar helped delegates develop a clear evidence-based concept on dietary cholesterol and spend the World Heart Day learning about the same.
