The Department of Sociology and NSS Unit St. Teresa’s College together coordinated the inaugural of the ‘Learning and Sharing Workshops for legal and police officers in Kerala – To End Violence against Women’ on 5 December 2015 at St. Teresa’s College Ernakulam.

The inaugural was organized in coordination with Lawyers Collective, New Delhi and Kochi-based Cultural Academy for Peace (CAP) and HRLN and convened and delivered in partnership with the Kerala State Legal Services Authority, Kerala State Police Academy (Thrissur) and the Directorate of Public Prosecutors. Sessions are meant to complement existing and long-standing efforts by state agencies in Kerala such as the Nirbhaya, Kudumbashree, Women’s Commission and Women’s Development Corporation.

Ms. Indira Jaising (Founder, Lawyers’ Collective and the first woman Additional Solicitor General of India) spoke about the VAW national/global context and Justice Kurian Joseph of the Supreme Court of India spoke about speedier and improved access to justice for VAW survivors in India.
