Department of Bharathanatyam
Bharatanatyam is an extremely codified and schematized Asian Indian style of classical dance. That is loved and adorned by numerous people who are passionate lovers of the art. The sole aim of this artform is to present a theme or feeling and to send an experience of it to the audience. The movements of Bharatanatyam are unique.
Traditionally, Bharatanatyam has been a solo dance that was performed exclusively by girls, and it expressed South Indian spiritual themes and religious ideas. Bharatanatyam is one of the most cherished and the most popular of classical Indian dance-forms, not only within the country but also outside it. It is considered the epitome of Indian cultural expression.

Message from HOD
“Once a dancer always a dancer, dance is something students can come back to during all stages of their life.” In a wide spectrum of dance artistry, there is not one “right” way to be an artist, one “best” style of dance or one dancer that is “better” than another. We aim to expose you to many possibilities and I welcome you to this artistic community as a dancer. Every student has something to offer the dance and the dance has something to every student. Our team of dance instructors have the experience and education to be innovative, inspiring and dedicated to providing responsible, careful, thorough instruction for all.
For 15 years, the Department has evolved to reflect the state of the art of Bharathanatyam. Students are prepared for careers in Bharathanatyam through study and practice of it and making the mind and body for success in dance. It is clear that the discipline, focus and artistic enlightenment of dance create success in all aspects of life. Dance education contributes to the development of responsible, dedicated, determined, and creative adults in society.
As the Quote says: “I do not try to dance better than anyone else. I only try to dance better than myself.”
