The Teresian Teaching-Learning Centre (An IQAC initiative), and Department of Chemistry and Center for Research, St. Teresa’s College (Autonomous), Ernakulam initiated an Online FDP on ICT Tools in Teaching Chemistry for the Chemistry teachers of various Colleges and Schools in India during September 2020. The present global situation of the Covid 19 pandemic and the understanding of an urgent need to enable teachers to handle online classes demanded such an online course.
Recorded classes were prepared by the resource person Dr. Narinderjit Kaur, Assistant Professor, PG Department of Chemistry, Kanya Mahavidyalaya (Autonomous), Jalandhar, Punjab. The course coordinators were Dr. Saritha Chandran A and Ms. Sicily Rilu Joseph, Dept. of Chemistry. The course was offered through the college MOODLE platform. The course included recorded videos, five assignments, and a final evaluation, feedback, discussion forums, and doubt clearance sessions. The course content was offered for 5 days and two more days were given to the participants to complete their assignments. The final quiz was on the 8th of September. The assignments were designed to give them hands-on training and assess their practical experience while the quiz was to evaluate their theoretical know-how of the topics taught in each session.
196 participants registered for the course and 151 participants successfully completed the course. There were participants from 23 different states of India including Maharastra, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Bihar, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Tripura, and Kerala
