CLASS ON ADOLESCENT ISSUES IN THE PRESENT SCENARIO

The Department of Home Science had organized a talk on Adolescent Issues in the Present Scenario on 16/11/2018. The resource person for the talk was Ms.Suma Sanjay, Special Educator, Pallikoodam School, Kottayam. The talk was given to the II B.Sc.Home Science students.

Ms. Suma  explained on the various issues faced by the adolescents especially of those studying in schools. Difficulties or problems mainly revolve around the school problems. It was explained that most of the adolescents develop a fear to go to school due to the generalized fear towards a teacher or peers. Often students produce complaints like abdominal pain and head ache as reasons for not attending the school.

Adolescents having poor academic achievement often have less satisfaction from school activities. Learning Disability was also pointed out to be reason for poor performance. They often indulge in high risk behaviours such as engaging in violence, taking alcohol, smoking etc. As a result, some of them even misses classes or eve become dropouts.

Another main issue discussed was the usage of internet and mobile phones. Adolescents often engage themselves with social media networking sites which grabs their study time. They are found to interact with strangers and even fall into traps.

Thus the session was an eye opener towards various issues faced by adolescents in the present scenario.
