St. Teresa’s College has numerous achievements, academic and extracurricular, to its credit which is the outcome of the dedication and team work of the staff and students.
Some of the achievements are outlined below:
Dr. Sajimol Augustine M., Principal, has been awarded the FLAIR (Fostering Linkages in Academic Innovation and Research) Research Excellence Award (Rs. 50,000) instituted by the Department of Higher Education, Kerala State.
Dr. Jaya T. Varkey, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry was awarded the UGC Research Award 2016-18. We congratulate her for this monumental achievement.
She is a member of the advisory board of the “International Journal of Medical Microbiology and Tropical Diseases” and the Editorial Board Member of an International Journal, ‘Journal of Multifunctional Polymers’. She is also a member of the National editorial Advisory Board of Journal of Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry and the Indian Journal of Cancer Education and Research (IJCER).
Dr. Latha Nair R. of the English Department was a Special Invitee at the one day Conference on ‘Technology for Sustainable Development’ co-hosted by the United Nations and Amrita University at the United Nations on July 8th 2015.
Dr. Nirmala Padmanabhan, Head of the Department of Economics, was honoured with the CSI- Valiant e-Governance Promoter Award for her active involvement in promoting e-Governance literacy among students and the community. They published Vivara Nidhi, a citizen’s handbook on e-Governance and e-Mithram, a handbook for students on e- governance.
Dr. Latha Nair and Smt. Lekha Sreenivas were appointed as Rapporteurs by the Kerala Higher Education Council and the Ministry of Education Kerala for the Global Education Meet (GEM) 2016 held on 29 -30 January at Leela Palace, Kovalam.
Lt. Dr. Seleena K.V., Head of the Department of Malayalam was awarded DG Commendation Card (Best Associate NCC Officer’s Award) at National Level during the Special National Integration Camp held at Lakshadweep.
Smt. Susan Cherian of the Dept. of Home Science was recognised as the Best NSS Officer in Mahatma Gandhi University and due to her efforts the NSS Unit of the College was recognised as one among the best Units in the University.
The team of teachers led by Dr. Nirmala Padmanabhan, Head, Department of Economics, received Good Service Entry as a recognition for winning the ‘Award For Innovation In Public Policy’ for the e- Jalakam project introduced by them. The team members are Dr. Sr. Vinitha CSST, Dr. Sr. Teresa CSST, Smt. Pearly Antony and Smt. Mary Liya.
Dr. Anu Gopinath participated in the India Arctic Expedition 2014 from June to July 2014. She was selected by the National Centre for Antarctic and Ocean Research, Goa for research on dissolved carbon compounds in Arctic Fords in collaboration with Svalabard Science Forum, Norway.
Dr. Nirmala Padmanabhan is involved in a study of the Role of Local Governments in Waste Management and Environment Protection, a World Bank funded project under KLGSD implemented by Government of Kerala.
Seminars and Conferences
A total of 18 international, national and state level conferences, workshops and seminars were conducted during the year 2014 -15. Among these were one UGC Sponsored National Conference and three UGC Sponsored National Seminars.
St. Teresa’s College decisively won the University Youth Festival 2015-16 for the sixth time in a row. In the group events, we were placed First for Thiruvathira, Folk dance and Eastern Group Song, Second for Oppana and Western Group Song and Third for Drama. Architha Anishkumar emerged as the Kalathilakam for the third consecutive year in the University Youth Festival. We are proud to announce that the college has bagged the Youth Festival trophy 22 out of the total 26 times it was conducted.
