B.Voc. Software Development

The University Grants Commission (UGC) had launched a scheme on 27 February 2014 for skills development based higher education as part of college/university education, leading to Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc.) degree with multiple entries and exit points. The B.Voc. programme is focused on universities and colleges providing undergraduate studies which would also incorporate specific job roles and their NOSs along with broad-based general education. This would enable the graduates completing B.Voc to make a meaningful participation in accelerating India’s economy by gaining appropriate employment, becoming entrepreneurs and creating appropriate knowledge.

Eligibility : The minimum qualification required to be eligible to apply is a pass in the 10+2 examination or equivalent from any recognized Central or State Board or a course recognized as equivalent by the college.

The B.Voc Software Development course is designed in such a way that at the end of three years the student will be awarded a B.Voc. Degree and pursue the job roles of, Analyst, Application Maintenance Engineer, Deployment Engineer, Engineer Trainee, Junior Data Associate, Language Translator, QA Engineer etc.

B.Voc Software Development Course

At the end of the second year, they will be awarded Advanced Diploma and they can seek jobs as Business Process Outsourcer, Website Developer, Documentation support etc.

At the end of the First year, they will be awarded Diploma and they can seek the job as Data Entry Operators, Accountant Trainees etc.

Syllabus – B.Voc Software Development

The Syllabus is set by the faculties of Department of Computer Applications, St Teresa’s College [Autonomous], with the help of expert guidance from the Board of Studies of Department of Computer Applications. The Syllabus is approved by the Board of Studies, Department of Computer Applications, St Teresa’s College [Autonomous], Governing Council of, St Teresa’s College [Autonomous], Board of Studies (Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam), University Grants Commission (UGC), and NSDC (National Skill Development Corporation).

The B.Voc Software Development syllabus is a judicious mixture of General Education Component and Skill Component. The Curriculum includes training for Foreign Language (French and English), and a thorough practical training for Accounting Principles with Accounting Softwares. The Curriculum also equips students with thorough knowledge of Computer Hardware, Designing software such as Photoshop and Coreldraw. The Program includes Internship at all exit points and regular Industrial Visits.

Assessment

There are two Assessments for B.Voc. Software Development Program, External Assessment, and Internal Assessment.

External Assessment

  1. The Skill component of the course will be assessed and certified by the IT & ITES Sector Skill Council.
  2. The credits for the skill component will be awarded in terms of NSQF level certification.

Internal Assessment

  1. Internal Assessment is carried out as per the Mahatma Gandhi University regulations.
