Department of Physics conducts a wide number of academic and non academic programmes for the student community in and around the college as well as the society in general. Lets set various milestones and then energize ourselves to move ahead to face the challenges in the coming year, with a positive attitude. Academic Year 2016-17
Annual Physics Symposium
The department of physics have planned to conduct a physics symposium every year. It will be a two day national symposium where invited talks and paper presentations will be included in the broad area of physics. We will launch it this year as “Annual Physics Symposium (APS)” on 2nd February 2017. To kick start this, we have conducted a logo design intercollegiate competition. The selected logo shall be used for all future APS.
Post Sanction Workshop on 19th December 2016
With the support of Centre for Environment and Development (CED), Thiruvanthapuram, Energy management centre (EMC), and Department of Physics jointly conducted a one day workshop on Energy Conservation. Honourable Mayor, Kochi Corporation, Smt. Soumani Jain inaugurated the workshop, Shri. Baiju.P program officer, CED, Rev. Dr. Sr .Vineetha, Director St. Teresa’s College, Dr. Sajimol Augustine, Principal, St Teresa’s College, Smt. Tessy Joseph Head of the department, Department of physics addressed the gathering. Dr. T. Sabu, Program director CED gave an insight about UrjaKiran and guidelines for conducting the program. Shri C.A. Rajagopalan Achari gave a demonstration of energy efficient equipments.
Energy conservation day (14th December 2016)
Urjakiran and the department of physics jointly celebrated the energy conservation day on 14th December 2016. C.S. Sunil, KSEB Asst Eng, deliver a talk on the various ways to conserve energy. An awareness rally conducted to convey the importance of energy conservation. Rally was flagged off by coucellor Sudha Dileep Kumar.
Space week celebration (8th October 2016)
I MSc students visited Valsalya Bhavan and set up experiments and demonstrated experiments using Laser, spectrometer etc. In connection with space week, Juliana from I MSc delivered a talk about APJ Abdul Kalam to the inmates of Valsalya Bhavan.
In connection with space week students of Physics department visited exhibition by ISRO at Ernakulam ground.
Workshop on Holography (3rd October 2016)
Dr. P. T. Ajith Kumar, Scientist, Light Logics delivered a talk on “Holography”. And BSc students of Department of Physics get a hands on training to make a hologram of their own.
TROP at Govt. HSS Kalvathy (20th September)
Classes were taken by II BSc Physics students on the selected topics by the help of video presentation.
Miss. Annie Vallamattom Memmorial Project Presentation Competition(7th September 2016)
A state level intercollegiate project presentation was conducted for MSc students in loving memory of Miss. Annie Vallamattom, former head of Physics Department. Dr. Joshi N. V. (Retd, St. Paul’s College), and Dr. Malini K. A. Vimala College, Calicut University were the judges of the competition. Manosh T.M. from Maharajas college and Divya D. from St. Teresas college won the first and second prizes.
Fresher’s Day Celebrations for I MSc (5th Sept 2016)
Fresher’s day was celebrated for I MSc. Linta Maria George II MSc delivered a talk on “Gravitational waves”.
Teachers Day Celebrations
Teacher’s day was celebrated in the college. Smt Tessy Joseph, Dr. Rose P Ignatius and Dr. Sajimol Augustine M were felicitated for 25 years of teaching experience years in the college.

Energy conservation program held on 30th August 2016
As part of Urjakiran 2016-17, a workshop on Energy conservation was held in the college (at Audio Visual Room, Science Block) from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm. The program was jointly organized by Centre for Environment and Development (CED), Energy Management Cell (EMC) and Department of Physics. Smt. Tessy Joseph, Head of the Department, Dept. of Physics welcomed the gathering. Dr. T Sabu delivered a talk on the activities of Urjakiran program. The session was followed by a group discussion. Representatives from various NGO’s and institutions took part in the program. The program comes to an end with vote of thanks by Mr. Prasood A P (Research fellow, CED).
As a tribute to Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam on his day of remembrance, Dr. C. Ramachandran, Scientist (Retd), ISRO shared his memories and experiences with Dr. A P J. He also inaugurated the seminar club activities of department of physics and gave an insight about different categories of Rockets and satellites.
Graduation Ceremony held on 14th July 2016
The Graduation ceremony was conducted in the college for the first batch pass outs of autonomy scheme for PG programme. 11 students of the department were graduated. Divya B, highest scorer in the batch was felicitated in the programme. The pass percentage for PG programme (2014-16) is 78.6 %.
Fresher’s Day Celebrations
Fresher’s Day was celebrated on 30/6/16. Dr. Manju T, Assistant Professor, Sree Sankara College, Kalady, inaugurated the association activities for the year. She delivered a talk on “Titanium dioxide nanotubes”. Sreevidhya V V was selected as Miss Fresher for the year.

Mind Power Training Program (10th June 2016)
One day seminar on “mind power training” was organized for MSc and BSc students of the department. 1st session on “Peace of mind reflects in the glow of your face” was taken by Dr. Ancy George, Associate Professor, Dept of English, S.D. College, Kanjirappilly.
2nd session on “how to develop our mind power and Importance of meditation” by Mr. George Joseph, Assistant Director of Agriculture, Uzhavoor, Kuruvilangadu.
