Department Activities 2016 – 2017

Power talk 4 – Doing Business in a Connected world – Mr. Icy varghese, Director – Opterna Technologies Pvt Limited, Kochi – 30th November 2016

Mr. Icy Varghese, Director – Opterna technologies Pvt Limited shared his experiences being an intrapreneur in different countries through his talk on “Doing business in a connected world”. He began his talk by bringing the attention of the audience to some of the recent happenings in the global business scenario. He discussed how something that happens in one country today has a ripple effect all over the globe. He also emphasized that business in a connected world does not just mean globalization but also, the technological proximity that people today have. His explanation of the internet of things opened questions among the students, which they found very interesting. The open session attracted questions on demonetization and Brexit which spurred interesting discussion.

Power Talk 3 – “Communication through Cinemas ” – Mr. Rajeev Ravi, film maker and ace photographer – 14th November, 2016

Renowned film maker and ace photographer Mr. Rajeev Ravi engaged the students in a discussion mode when he spoke to them on how cinema is a mode of communication to the society at large. Specially mentioning his most recent movie Kammatipadam, he discussed how the city of kochi has changed from the 1980s to today. Answering student questions, he shared his experience creating movies like “Annayum Rassoolum” and Oscar Nominated “Liars dice”. Addressing the students from a more managerial perspective, he said that he is not anti-development and that he is for an all-encompassing development where there is a more humane touch. He emphasized that the students, in their positions, should look forward to make the place they live a beautiful one where everyone is appreciated

Power Talk 2 – “Building Brands” by Mr. Cherian Peter, CMO, Muthoot Finance ; 6th September, 2016

The second of the series of Power Talk was conducted on 6th September where Mr. Cherian Peter shared his experience of building brands and of repositioning them. The shift from Escotel to Idea was explained in detail. He also shared his experience of marketing Muthoot in a place totally virgin for it – Hyderabad. The brand story of Hero Honda, reliance Jio and Maggie was also discussed. 

Power Talk 1 –  Ethics in Public Administration – Mr. Pratheesh Kumar IPS; 27th July, 2016

Power Talk is a series of talks arranged by the Department where experts from the industry address the students giving them an exposure to the world outside.

The first talk in the series was given by Mr. Pratheesh Kumar IPS, SP – Telecommunications on the topic “Ethics in Public Administration.”. He discussed on the concept of what ethics is and how different it is from morale and values. How public administration affects private life was also discussed. He urged the students to believe in the possibility of a corruption free India. 

FDP on Case Writing 28th June 2016

An FDP on case writing was organized for the teachers on 28th June 2016. Mr. Jaidev Poomath, Assistant Professor at Kochi Business School discussed with faculty members how to initiate an idea on writing a case study and on getting the same published. He also discussed in brief on methods to review a book. 

Impresario -2016 inaugurated on 23rd June, 2016

Impresario, the management association of the Department of Management Studies was inaugurated on 23rd June 2016 by Dr. Gopakumar V, Director, KMCT Group of Institutions, Kochi. The official logo of the association was formally launched by Dr. Sr. Vinitha, Director, St. Teresas. The office bearers were installed by Ms. Sajithamony, HoD, Department of Management Studies

World Environment Day Celebrations (6th June, 2016)

World environment day was celebrated in the department with the theme “Join the race to make the world a better place”. The students presented posters and collage on the theme. A very inspiring speech on the need to protect environment was also made. The HOD, Ms. Sajithamony T.M., discussed simple and practical ways the students can stay close to nature. Saplings were distributed to the students. A selfie contest is also organized in the regard.

Re-Kindle 2016 (2-3rd June, 2016)

Rekindle-2016, the re-orientation programme for the III Semester B.M.S Batch was conducted on 2nd and 3rd June, 2016. Rekindle is an annual event for the students returning from their annual vacation. Created with the vision to re-emphasize the students’ learning, the programme involves various sessions that keep the students motivated to push themselves further towards excellence. The team of in-house faculty re-orients the students towards their academic pursuit.
