VISIT TO METROPOLIS LAB
The 21st of January 2017 was scheduled for a visit to the Metropolis Lab by the twelve students of M.Sc. Zoology 2nd year class , accompanied by the Dr.Reema Kuriakose , Dr.Helvin Vincent and Ms.Nimitha Ramachandran.The students were given a brief introduction by the head of the lab, Dr.Ramesh, who explained the various techniques and technologies that his lab used, to perform different types of medical sample analysis. The students were later accompanied by the senior analyst of the Serology department Mr.Rajesh Kumar who patiently explained about various types of clinical analysis techniques that they practice in their serology lab.
The techniques included ELISA, immuno-elecrophoresis and Widal test. Dr.Rajesh explained in detail about the various types of ELISA which included direct,indirect,sandwich, capture and competitive types, latest techniques like chemi-luminescence, immuno-electrophoresis etc. He stressed on the importance of using such advanced techniques to prevent time consumption and errors in analysis.
STUDY TOUR – 2016 TRIP TO MYSORE, COORG & CHIKMAGALUR
As a part of the annual end semester tour, 39 students of III DC Zoology went for a 3 night, 4 day trip to Mysore, Coorg & Chikmagalur from 14th to 18th December 2016, organized by Olive Holidays Tour Company. The students were accompanied by two teachers, Dr Reema Kuriakose and Dr. Soja Louis.The students visited ecologically significant places like Butterfly Park, Mysore Zoo, Chamundi hills, Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, Brindavan Garden and Nisargadhama Bamboo forest. The last day was eventful with river rafting and campfire.
NATURE CAMP 2016 – THATTEKADU BIRD SANCTUARY
As a part of the Nature Camp ,the students of the Department of Zoology including both II DC (37) years and III DC (3) , a total of 40 students accompanied by two teachers, Mrs Meera Jan Abraham and Ms Nimitha R Chandran attended a 3 day Nature Study Camp at Thattekadu Bird Sanctuary, on 3 rd, 4th and 5th November 2016 .The students were also fortunate enough to attend a class by Dr. R Sugathan , Ornithologist, The ornithologist recounts his close association with his mentor Dr. Salim Ali and his adventurous expeditions in search of rare species.
VISIT TO CMLRE
The III B.Sc. students of the department visited CMLRE (Centre for Marine Living Resource and Ecology), Cochin which is an institution under the Ministry of Earth Sciences,Govt. of India, on 1st August 2016 (Open Day), as a part of celebrating a decade of the ministry. The students got an opportunity to understand the various research activities conducted in different departments of the institution. They also had a sneak peak into the wet lab, Marine Biotechnology lab and various instruments that aid in the scientific research.
NATURE CAMP TO VATTAVADA
As a part of the Nature Camp 2016 ,the students of the Department of Zoology including both second years and 1st PG students , a total of 45 students and two teachers attended a 3 day Nature Camp at Vattavada , Munnar on 7th, 8th and 9th February 2016 . This programme is sponsored by KFRI and Rotary Club, Kochi. This is an opportunity for these students to get close to nature and cherish the beauty and essence of Nature and the importance to protect our environment.
CMFRI VISIT OPEN DAY
As a part of the 69th anniversary the CMFRI organized an open day on 3rd February 2016. The M.Sc. students visited CMFRI on this day.
OPEN HOUSE AMRITHA INSTITUTE
A group of 12 students of 1st M.Sc. Zoology visited Amritha Centre for Nanoscience and Molecular Medicine, Kochi on 30th January 2016 as a part of institution visit ON their open house.
TRIP TO COORG
The third year students of Dept of Zoology As a part of their final year tour programmed their trip to Myoore and Coorg .It was 3 day 4 nights trip organized by Xpanzza Holidays Tour Company from 16thDecembe 2016 to 20. A total of 28 students and two teachers accompanied them. They had an amazing time at Mysore and Coorg where they had a visit to ecologically significant places like Butterfly park, Mysoore Zoo, Chamundi hills, Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, Brindavan Garden and Nisargadhama Bamboo forest, Dubare waterfalls respectively. The students got an opportunity to have a glance at these natural ecological wonders. They also visualized how endangered animals and plants were protected. The last day was eventful with river rafting and campfire which they thoroughly enjoyed.
VISIT TO NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF OCEANOGRAPHY (NIO), COCHIN
The students of II DC Zoology visited NIO on 26th September, 2015 on the Open Day. The students were brought a little closer to the significant developments in the marine ecosystem researches. They also had a glimpse on the status, threats and mitigation studies related to the marine environment.
NATURE CAMP 2014
The II DC Zoology students accompanied by two teachers Mrs. Gladys Francis and Dr. Reema Kuriakose went for a Nature camp to Vallakadvu, Thekkadi along with three tour co-ordinators Mr. Venu variath, Mr. Vinod, Mr.Renjith on 5th February 2015. The major spots visited were Gavi and Vallakadvu.
STUDY TOUR 2014’- TRIP TO MYSORE & OOTY
25 students of III DC Zoology went for a 3 day study tour to Mysore and Ooty from 16th to 19th December 2014.The students were accompanied by Dr. Meera Jan Abraham and Dr. Soja Louis.

STUDY TOUR TO HYDERABAD
35 students accompanied by Dr. Meera Jan Abraham and Dr. Soja Louis went on a study tour to Hyderabad on 14-20th January 2012. They visited LaCONES (CCMB), Nehru Zoological Park, Lumbini Park, Ramoji Film City, Snow World, Golconda Fort etc.
