  • The department magazine ‘La Perle’, a student initiative is published every year.
  • The III year students of the French department organize All Kerala French Fest ‘La Fête Francophone’ for school and college students learning French as second language. Various competitions like quiz, French singing competition, dance, salad making, essay writing are conducted. The highlight of the the day is the French cuisine.
  • The students of the department of French celebrate ‘Fête de la Musique’ in June every year. The event is made colourful with songs and dance performed by the students. ‘Fête de la Musique’ or World Music Day is celebrated in France on 21st June to mark the beginning of summer. Musicians from all over the world perform on streets and parks to welcome summer.
  • French National Day: The National day of France is celebrated every year on the 14th of July to commemorate the French revolution and the storming of the prison, Bastille. The students of the French department celebrate the event every year in July. The students sing the French national anthem “La Marseillaise” followed by skit and other activities.

 

  • Epiphany: Every year, we celebrate Epiphany in January, which commemorates the visit of the three wise kings to see the Christ in the manger. We cut the traditional Epiphany cake ‘Galette des rois’ in which is placed a small statue. The person who gets the piece which has the statue in it, is crowned as the ‘King or Queen’ for the day.

 

  • Teacher’s Training: The III year students have every year a new and wonderful experience of being teachers for a day as part of the teacher’s training. They take class for the I B. Com students, who opted French as additional language, of our college. This helps them to realize the role of a teacher and the multiple qualities she must possess to manage the class.

 

  • On the Job Training: The II year students of the department have an opportunity to go for a training session in various Travel Agencies for a period of 8 days in the month of January/February. They have an opportunity to learn and get trained on various travel formalities like ticket reservation, visa, passport, hotels, etc. These days of training make them understand basic concepts of Travel and Tourism industry in today’s world.

 

  • Vayanavaram is conducted every year by the department of French to promote reading habits of students in French language. A reading competition is conducted for the students who have taken French as Second language.

 

  • World Tourism Day: Every year World Tourism day is celebrated by the Tourism Cub under the department of French in September. The day witness the club inauguration followed by a talk by eminent personalities in the Tourism industry about the World Tourism Day theme. The prizes of the various competitions held in connection with the World Tourism Day celebrations are distributed on the same day.
  • French Film Festival

The students of the department of French had the opportunity to participate in the French Film Festival organised in November by Alliance Française at the Public Library, Ernakulam in November 2013.

  • Tourism Camp

The following students Varsha A.P., Rosemin Rich, Jasmin S., Nouzeen Noushad and Aleesa Luffera attended the two day camp held by the Distict Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC), Ernakulam, at Bhoothathankettu on 29th and 30th November 2013. The camp was inaugurated by Shri. T.U. Kuruvila, MLA followed by the keynote address by P.I. Sheikh Pareeth, district collector, Ernakulam. The students who attended the camp received participation certificates.

  • Visit to the House of Providence

It was Christmas season and a time for sharing and loving. All the students of the French department visited the House of Providence which is an old age home in Kacheripady. The students were well-prepared with songs and monoact to entertain the aged. We spent a lot of time talking to them and listening to their stories. And before leaving, all the members of the home were given a Christmas gift which was a personalised gift brought by every student. It was an unforgettable experience which gifted us pleasant memories making our Christmas a meaningful one.

 

  • Teresian Rural Outreach Program

The students of the department of French participated in the rural outreach program which was organised at St. Mary’s LP School in Mulavukkadu in January 2014.The school children were taught communication skills in English. The students were encouraged to participate actively in class as we organised games and tests for which prizes were given as a token of appreciation.It was a memorable day by all means.

 

  • Vayanavaram 2014: The department of French along with the department of Languages organized ‘Vayanavaram’ on 19th June 2014 as part of the Navathi celebration of the college. The program was inaugurated by Dr. Sebastian Paul. He gave a talk on the importance of cultivating reading habit among the youth.

 

  • Vayanavaram 2015: The department of French participated in the ‘Vayanavaram’ organized by the department of Malayalam on 19th June 2015. The students displayed charts with French quotes related to the importance of reading. Reading Competition was conducted by the department of French for the students who have taken French as Additional Language.

 

  • As part of World Music day, The Alliance Française, Kochi organized a music gala on 27th June 2015 at Centre Square. Various music bands and musicians performed on that day. Anupama Thomas of III BA French performed a solo at the event.

 

 

  • The II year and I year BA French students participated in a painting competition, ‘Sapthavarnangal’ conducted by the DTPC on 21st July 2015 as part of the upcoming World Tourism Day celebrations in September.

 

  • Industrial Visit: The students of the MTTM went for three days industrial visit in the Hospitality sector in November 2015 to these well-known hotels Brunton Boatyard and Eighth Bastion. The students were able to experience and learn the etiquette, manners and guest relation skills needed in hotel industry.

 

  • Talk by Industrial Experts: The BA French and MTTM students were given a talk by the experts from Speed Wings Academy on new Aviation and Tourism courses related to Dangerous Goods Regulation in the month of September 2015.

 

  • Photo Exhibition: A photo exhibition was conducted as part of India Tourism Day celebration on 20th of January 2016. Various competitions were held like ‘Identify the Monuments’ and Caption Writing’. Winners were felicitated by the Principal, Dr. Sajimol Augustine and Director, Dr. Sr. Vinitha. The event was an initiative of the MTTM (Master’s in Travel & Tourism) students of the French department.

 

  • French Movie: As part of improving their French language and to make them acquainted with the culture of France BA French and MTTM students were shown the movie La Môme in the second week of June 2016.

 

  • Independence day activity: The students of the French were shown the movie ‘Bhagat Singh’ in August 2016.

 

  • World environment day, Evergreen Tourism Club members ( Master of Tourism and Travel Management (MTTM) and B.A French students) in association with Dept. of French conducted a Nature walk to Mangalavanam Bird Sanctuary on Monday 6th June 2016. A talk to create awareness of Man and Environment was given by Mr. Manu Satyan. Around 50 students participated for the event. The students enjoyed and experienced the pristine mangroves.

 

  • The seminar organized by the department of French and the Evergreen Tourism Club, was delivered by T.K.Sajeev, Regional Coordinator, Southern India of “Wildlife and We Protection Foundation” on Wednesday 8th June 2016 in connection to the environment day in the college campus. He gave an insight to the students on how man is responsible for protectgnature and

 

  • A class on dining etiquettes and a virtual tour of the departments of Marriott hotel was organized on September 22nd, 2016, at Marriott, Edapally for the students of various departments of St. Teresa’s College, Ernakulam. The students got a chance to learn about the functioning of various departments and the manners to be adopted at the dining table.

 

  • The II year MTTM students got a chance to volunteer in the Kerala Travel Mart held at Willington Island from 27th-30th September 2016. Kerala Travel Mart is business to business meet where the different suppliers (Travel Agents, Tour Operators, and Hoteliers) of the Tourism industry come together and showcase their products.

 

  • The French department in collaboration with Periyar Tiger Reserve, Kerala Forest department organized a two day camp for the II MTTM students at Periyar from 18th – 20th October 2016 to study on the Reserve activities and functions.

 

  • The first year MTTM students went for On the Job Training at Marriott, Edapally and Le Meridian, Kochi for 10 days to study on the working and operations of its various departments in September 2016.

 

  • Abin K.I., Assistant Professor, School of Tourism Studies, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam delivered a talk on ‘How to be a Travel Writer’ to the I and II MTTM students on 18th November 2016.

 

  • As part of Christmas celebration students of the department of French visited Relief Settlement Palluruthy, a rehabilitation shelter for the destitute and House of Providence, an old age home, Kacheripady. The students shared their joy with the inmates of these houses in December 2016.

 

  • Charity Event: The Members of the tourism Club organized one day outing for the inmates of Old Age Home, House of providence, Kacheripady, on Jan 18th , 2016, with games, food and entertainment.

 

  • India Tourism Day: India Tourism day was celebrated with different competitions like (Logo Designing, Caption Writing, Painting, Quiz).Students got an experience to conduct the Food Festival in the Campus. We have conducted One day Seminar on “Sustainable Tourism for Development” by Mr. C. Anil Kumar, Vice President Operations, Cherai Beach Resorts on 25th Jan 2017.

 

  • Earn while you learn: The MTTM students got an opportunity to participate as support staff in a conference organised by the Cardiological Society of India, Kerala Chapter at Le Meridien from 8th to 11th December 2016.

 

  • Travel Desk: A new initiative of the MTTM students to help the students of our college with travel procedures. This facility was launched in November 2016 and is open to all students and teachers of the college.

 

  • Talk: A talk on the ‘Scope of learning French as Foreign Language’ was organized by the department of French for the students of the college who have opted French as additional language. The talk was delivered by Mr. Sreenath Pillai, Manager, Campus France, Kochi on 2nd March 2017.

 

  • World Environment Day: World Environment Day celebrations were conducted by the Evergreen Tourism Club of the French department in college on 6th June 2017. Students from various departments brought saplings from their house and to plant it in the garden in the Science block. They are asked to nurture it for a period of one year and the girls who nurture it properly will be given prize on the next World Environment Day. The students and teachers also took a pledge the same day to protect and care for our Mother Nature.
  • Talk: A talk on Value based Education was conducted on 20th of July. Clinical Psychologist Ms. Divya Ajay addressed the students of the department of French on deterioration of values in the new generation and motivated them in the right direction.
  • Vayanavaram: As part of Vayanavaram celebrations a reading competition in French was conducted for the students who have taken as French as their second language in both Arts and Science stream on the 28th of June 2017. Ms. Teena Mary (Maths department) and Ms. M. Jessica (English department) were the winners.
  • Follow-up activities of World Environment Day: The students of MTTM had a one day picnic to the Swarnodhyanam (Botanical Garden, man-made forest), near to the Airport Golf Course, Nedumbassery on 21st July 2017.
  • Motivational Talk: A half day talk by Mr. Thomas Mathai, Director of Riya Travels was conducted on 2nd August 2017. He addressed the II year students in the Arts Block and MTTM students in the seminar hall regarding the job opportunities in the Travel and Tourism Sector. He motivated the students to know more about the scope in the Aviation industry.
  • Dining Etiquettes: A one day visit to the Courtyard Marriott Hotel near the Airport Nedumbassery for a dining etiquette class was organized by the department of French on 21st August 2017. The students from various departments like Communicative English, B.Voc Software Development, Home Science, Commerce along with MTTM students participated in the program.
  • Talk: Deepak, Senior Product Manager, Riya Travels & Tours Pvt. Ltd. introduced the students of MTTM to Potential Tourism destination, i.e., Far East Asia. A well prepared PPT helped the students to understand the Geography of far East Asia.
  • French Film: The French Club arranged an opportunity for the BA French students to watch the French film, ‘Germinal’, directed by Gérard Depardieu on August 16th
  • French Fest: ‘La Fête francophone’, the 11th All Kerala inter-collegiate/inter-school French Fest was held on September 23rd This prestigious event of the department of French is organized every year by the students of the department which helps to promote their organizing and leadership skills. As part of the event, different competitions like, singing, photography, short films, recitation, spell bee, salad making, dance, elocution, were conducted. Highlight of the day was the French cuisine. French delicacies like quiche, tarte  au poulet, et  tarte aux champignons, croissant, crêpe, madeleine, éclaire, mousse au chocolat were available at the stalls. Gregorian Public School, Maradu, bagged the  over all trophy.
  • World Tourism Day: World Tourism Day was celebrated by the Evergreen Tourism Club of the department of French, on 27th September 2017 in the college. Various competitions like essay writing and photography were conducted. Prizes will be given to the students on the India Tourism Day in January.
  • French Film: Another Film session was organized by the French Club for the BA French students. The movie screened was an animated movie ‘Kirikou et le Sorcière’ on September 13th
