Department Activities

  • The French department association activities were inaugurated by the Mrs. Ansy Sebastian, retired Professor from The Cochin College, Mattancherry, on 23rd June followed by Fresher’s day celebrations.
  • Fête de la Musique: he event was made colourful with songs and dance performed by the students. ‘Fête de la Musique’ or World Music Day is celebrated in France on 21st June to mark the beginning of summer. Musicians from all over the world perform on streets and parks to welcome summer.
  • French National Day: The National day of France is celebrated every year on the 14th of July to commemorate the French revolution and the storming of the prison, Bastille. The students of the French department celebrated the event this year on the 18th of July. The students sang the French national anthem “La Marseillaise”. Pearly James of the II BA French briefed the students on the history of French revolution and the students were shown a video on French revolution. It was followed by a skit by the I BA French students. There was also quiz competition based on the history and culture of France.
  • Nature Walk: As Part of World environment day, Evergreen Tourism Club members ( Master of Tourism and Travel Management (MTTM) and B.A French students) in association with Dept. of French conducted a Nature walk to Mangalavanam Bird Sanctuary on Monday 6th June 2016. A talk to create awareness of Man and Environment was given by Mr. Manu Satyan. Around 50 students participated for the event. The students enjoyed and experienced the pristine mangroves.

 

 

 

 

 

  • Movie Time:  As part of improving their French language and to make them acquainted with the culture of France the students are shown the movie La Môme in the second week of June.

  • Seminar:
  • The seminar organized by the department of French and the Evergreen Tourism Club, was delivered by T.K.Sajeev, Regional Coordinator, Southern India of “Wildlife and We Protection Foundation” on Wednesday 8th June 2016 in connection to the environment day in the college campus. He gave an insight to the students on how man is fully responsible to the nature and his actions.
  • Abin K.I., Assistant Professor, School of Tourism Studies, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam delivered a talk on ‘How to be a Travel Writer’ to the I and II MTTM students on 18th November 2016.
  • A one day Seminar was conducted on ” Sustainable Tourism for Development” by Mr. C. Anil Kumar,  Vice President Operations,  Cherai Beach  Resorts on 25th Jan 2017 in accordance with India Tourism day.

  • Industrial Visit: A class on dining etiquettes and a virtual tour of the departments of Marriott hotel was organized on September 22nd,2016, at Marriott, Edapally for the students of various departments of St. Teresa’s College, Ernakulam. The students got a chance to learn about the functioning of various departments and the manners to be adopted at the dining table.
  • Volunteering Experience: The II year MTTM students got a chance to volunteer in the Kerala Travel Mart held at Willington Island from 27th-30th September 2016. Kerala Travel Mart is business to business meet where the different suppliers (Travel Agents, Tour Operators, and Hoteliers) of the Tourism industry  come together and showcase their products.

 

 

  • Destination Study: The French department in collaboration with Periyar Tiger Reserve, Kerala Forest department organized a two day camp for the II MTTM students at Periyar from 18th – 20th October 2016 to study on the Reserve activities and functions.
  • Teaching Practice: The III year students of the department were provided with an opportunity to develop their teaching skills. They had a week of teaching practice where they took class for Commerce students who have French as second language.
  • The II BA French students of the department underwent a training  in various Travel Agencies at Kochi for a period of 10 days in January to have a practical session of what they have learnt in class.
  • On the Job Training: The first year MTTM students undertook an OJT at Marriott,Edapally and Le Meridian, Kochi for 10 days to study on the working and operations of its various departments.
  • French Fest: The III year students of the French department organized All Kerala French Fest ‘La Fête Francophone’ held on 12th November 2016 for school and college students learning French as second language. Various competitions like quiz, French singing competition, dance, salad making, essay writing were conducted. The highlight of the the day was French cuisine.
  • Charity Event-  The Members of the tourism Club organized one day outing for the inmates of Old Age Home,  House of  Providence , kacheripady,  on Jan 18th , 2016, with  games, food and entertainment.
  • India Tourism Day- India Tourism day was Celebrated with different  Competitions( Logo Designing, Caption Writing, Painting , Quiz).

    Students got an experience to conduct the Food Festival in the Campus.

  • Students of BA French participated in the competitions conducted by Alliance francaise, Kochi. Rucheena Mamen Velluthottam and Julin Mary Antony won the II and III prize respectively in the French recitation competition. Susan Thomas won  the I prize for  French solo song competition.

  • Spirit of Christmas: As part of Christmas celebration students of the department of French visited Relief Settlement Palluruthy, a rehabilitation shelter for the destitute and House of Providence, an old age home, Kacheripady. The students shared their joy with the inmates of these houses.
  •  Epiphany: This traditional festival of France is celebrated to commemorate the three wise kings visiting Infant Jesus. Generally it is celebrated on the 1st Sunday of January. This year too we celebrated it on 13th  January 2017.
