Association Inauguration

Ms Anubha George who has worked as a Deputy Editor, journalist for BBC Radio1, held a session on the career opportunities in the field of writing and media. (23 Jun 2016)

Industrial Visit

    

 

 

                    The students of the II BA Communicative English and III BA Communicative English went for a Media Visit to Malayala Manorama studios (Mazhavil Manorama and Malayala Manorama News). (18, 20  July 2016 )

Session on Creative Writing

 A session on Creative Writing was held in association with the Writer’s Forum. Tanya Abraham, the Creative Art Director of Kashi Art Gallery, Kochi and Founder-Director of The Art Outreach Society (TAOS) held activity oriented session on story building. (22 Jul 2016)

‘Road Map to Journalism’  

On November 17, NSS Wing of the College in collaboration with the Department of Communicative English organized a Workshop on ‘Road Map to Journalism’ to commemorate National Journalism Day. The Chief Guest for the day, Mr. Chandrakanth Viswanath, Spl. Correspondent at The New Indian Express, had an interactive session with the audience and he stressed the importance of a healthy media for a healthy society. Ms. Meena Diwakar, Publisher and Independent Journalist, chaired the second session and she gave insights to Conflict Journalism and Peace Journalism.

Advertising and Digital Marketing

The Department organized a session on ‘Advertising and Digital Marketing’ for the final year students on November 29th. The session was held by representatives from Buzzstop Integrated Communications Pvt. Ltd., an advertising agency.

At the Kochi Muziris Biennale

25 students of the department along with a faculty member participated in the Art Workshop conducted by Ms Jayanthi Moorthy as part of A.I.R. Gallery’s exhibit Cooperative Consciousness at the Kochi Biennale. The workshop conducted on  Jan 11 focused on creating a space for artistically inclined youth to come together around shared goals of art making, exploration, experimentation, and community building.

On 18th February 2017, nine students attended a talk conducted by Geetha Narayanan, Founder Director of Srishti Institute of Art Design & Technology at Cabral Yard, Fort Kochi as part of Kochi biennale. Following the talk, Narendra Raghunath, visual media artist and Faculty at Srishti Institute, familiarized the students on how to read and appreciate the Biennale artists’ installations at Aspin Wall, Fort Kochi.

Association Inauguration

CE Asso 1The inauguration of the Communicative English Association was held on 13 July 2015. The Chief Guest for the event was Mr. Bonny Kuriakose, Chief Sub-Editor of Malayala Manorama.

After lighting the lamp and formally inaugurating the Association, Mr. Kuriakose proceeded to talk to the students about revolutionary changes in print journalism. He explained the finer aspects of journalism with special reference to the reporting and advertisements in the newspapers.

Session on Techniques in Filmmaking

IMG_3575The session was held on 14 July 2015 for the second and third year students of Communicative English. It was conducted by Mr. Arun Bose, who won the best short film award on Climate Change at United Nations Copenhagen Climate Change Conference, Denmark, 2009 for his short film ‘My Paper Boat’. He worked as an Associate Professor – B.A. Journalism, Madras Christian College, Chennai and is a member of the Film Writer’s Association Mumbai, India.

Talk on Branding

WP_20150715_001A talk on Branding and the various Techniques in Advertising by Mr. Vivek Mohan, Brand – Kerala Head, Idea Cellular. The session focused on branding and advertising. Mr. Vivek threw more lights on various concepts of advertising, like surrogate advertising, covert advertising and out of home advertising. Mr. Vivek also explained the structure and functioning of an ad agency.

Mr. Vivek dealt with topics like the new age media for advertising. The session was an interactive approach and Mr. Vivek gave the students more insight into the recent trends in branding and advertising.

TROP Actvity

IMG-20160115-WA0008 IMG_20160107_133628689The department conducted a two days workshop in January as part of the TROP activity for the year 2015-16 at LTGLPS, Ocanthuruth. The students of the I BA Communicative English were divided into two groups, where each group was assigned six sessions. The upper primary classes were engaged by 31 students from the department. The objectives of this year’s TROP activities were to teach basic usage of English and also to improve their vocabulary and pronunciation.

Knowledge Fair

As part of the Knowledge Fair, the Department of Communicative English organised a presentation and an interactive session on the topic, ‘Recent Trends in Documentary Making’ on 22 January 2016 at 12.30 p.m., Arts Block Auditorium, St. Teresa’s College Ernakulam.

Mr. Rajendra Varman who is currently working at Amrita Television, Kochi was the Resource Person for the session. He is also a visiting faculty for Film Making and Documentaries at K. R. Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science & Arts, Kottayam and St. Joseph College of Communication, Changanassery. 

A Documentary Competition was organised as part of the event. The result of the Documentary Competition was announced immediately after the session and cash award of Rs. 25,000/- was awarded to the best documentary. 

Session on Career Choices

A session on ‘Career Choices in the Field of Mass Communication and Journalism’ was conducted for the students of the department by Mr K Sai Prasad, HoD of the Marketing Communication Department of Commits Institute of Journalism & Mass Communication, Bangalore.
