As part of the Jubilee Project, “Women Empowerment and training”, the college decided to set up a Women’s Study Centre to offer job oriented courses and life skill development for women. In this connection two Post Graduate Diploma courses were initiated in the year 2002 and the courses were affiliated to Centre for Continuing Education, Govt. of Kerala in the year 2007. In the year 2006, the certificate course in Jewellery Designing was started ,which is affiliated to Centre for Continuing Education, Government of Kerala.
The department had submitted a proposal to the UGC, New Delhi for a new degree programme B.Sc. Apparel and Fashion Design which was initiated in the academic year 2012-13 with the affiliated from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. The course is based on the core subject of ‘Design Thinking’ with the aim of creating a responsible designer in context of society, environment, education, research, technology and innovation. Dr.Purandeswari, Hon.Minister of State for HRD (Higher Education) , Govt. of India inaugurated this course on 19th January, 2012.
The faculties in the department are well qualified and competent and they are members in various academic bodies of Universities and Govt. bodies of Kerala. They have also functioned as consultants and resource persons in their respective fields. The faculties of the fashion design department are also fashion designers functioning individually in design related fields, practicing as design consultants for various firms and giving design related solutions to the needy. This helps the students to learn from their teacher’s experiences and thus enriching them with knowledge to tackle real life situations in the Fashion Industry.

The Graduation show of the students of BSc. Apparel and Fashion Designing and P.G.Diploma in Fashion Designing and Apparel Merchandising ,"KALEIDOSCOPE " is a colorful reflection of creative talents .This Final collection is a grand finale to the intense trainibated efforts of the students.The show is based on individual themes chosen by the students.Stalls for exhibition-cum-sale also set up by the students that includes Food , Handmade Products, Illustrations, draping and accessories and home decor items.

The Department has organised two days UGC Sponsored National Seminar on REQUISITES OF DESIGN INTERVENTION IN HANDICRAFTS SECTOR on 8th and 9th February 2017 at Seminar Hall, St.Teresa's college
The main aim of this seminar is to shed light on the innumerable design possibilities employing design intervention process. The seminar will act as a platform for both the designers and artisans to come together and explore their inherent talents by which it would be possible to pave way to the traditional crafts in the International Market.
The sessions are handled by experienced resource persons who are experts in the field of various craft sectors. Their knowledge and expertise about the use of modern technology in designing the traditional crafts would be a boon to both the student designers and artisans. This seminar is organized as a humble contribution to the society.
The Department in collaboration with KHADI VILLAGE INDUSTRIES & TRIVANDRUM SARVODAYA SANGH is organizing a Fashion Show on "Khadi For Freedom Now For Fashion" on September 7,2016 at 1.30 pm in Platinum Jubilee Auditorium at St.Teresa's College,Ernakulam
