BHOOMITRA SENA CLUB BMC CODE: 107/EKM/05/10 St. Teresa's College, Ernakulam, founded in the year 1925 and affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, has a long tradition of encouraging women education and empowerment. Bhoomithra Sena Club in the college ( Code No: 107/EKM/05/10 ), formed with support from Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Government of Kerala, aims at grooming environmentally conscious and socially responsible young women who will value the bounties of nature and strive to preserve them. Over the past few years BMC members in the college, besides organising seminars, debates, lectures and quiz prgrammes on environmental issues, have actively been working to promote scientific waste management and preserve traditional water bodies in their locality. Such pro-active and dedicated work earned them the award from The Directorate of Environment and Climate Change as the second best club in central zone in Kerala for the year 2012-13.   b5 VISION To create awareness among the youth about the importance of conserving nature and its resources. MISSION Our mission is to gradually downturn the use of plastic by using the alternative option of Cloth bags (bhoomithram sanchi) and thus  to join hands with nature.   • Spreading environment literacy- particularly on solid waste management and agriculture production
  • Creating awareness about the need for scientific segregation of waste at  source
  •  Reducing the dependence on plastic products & suggesting alternate options like cloth, jute etc.
  •  Promoting organic cultivation of vegetables in households & institutions.

Activities of 2015-16 - Specific focus will be on :

  • Popularizing Bhoomitram Sanchi.
  • Sustaining Ezhazhakilekku Ezhikkara project initiated as a part of  Paaristithikam project.
  • Promoting integrated project covering solid waste management at source along with organic cultivation of vegetables
