The academic year 2017-18 started off with the celebration of the Holy Mass invoking the blessings of the Lord Almighty.
The activities of the Sociology Department was flagged off during the second week of June in connection with the Environmental Day.
ENVIRONMENTAL WEEK
Poster Design Competition
“Connecting People to Nature”– Taking into account this theme of U.N. with regard to Environment Day this year, the Sociology Association planned to celebrate the Environmental week in order to instill the culture of environmental conservation and protection among students in the department. The initial programme in this regard was the poster design competition. The judge for this competition was Dr Mary Liya from department of economics. The first prize was won by Aleena Augustine (II BA) and the second prize was won by Ancy Sebastain (III BA). The competition helped the students to think proactively in terms of environmental conservation
. Green Classroom
On 9/6/2017, as part of celebrating the Environmental Week, Sociology Association organized an intradepartmental competition “My green class room“. The students in the department were asked to make their classrooms ‘eco-friendly’ by incorporating the 3R principles- Reuse, Reduce and Recycle. The judge for the competition was Ms Rose Scaria from department of History. The second year students bagged the First prize, and the second prize was won by the third year students. The competition helped in inculcating the spirit of environmentalism among the students in a comprehensive manner.
“Touching Desperate Lives”
As part of the Reading Week, the students of our Department collected more than 100 books to donate it to ” Theruvoram“- an NGO offering temporary shelter for the Homeless. The students interacted with the inmates and had a meaningful discourse with the leading figure of “theruvoram”- Murugan. The event sparked a sense of social accountability among students which will be a torchbearer for future association endeavors.
