Advanced Learners Class

2016-17

REPORT 2015-16

The Department of Economics, St. Teresa’s College started the Advanced Learner’s classes (ALC) with an aim to provide adequate competency to the students to crack various entrance exams in Economics across India. One important vision of the Department is to train students in economic analysis with particular emphasis on mathematical economics. The discipline of economics is turning highly empirical and requires a good mathematical base. When it comes to higher studies, most of the reputed institutes cater to syllabi with high mathematical prerequisites. The entrance exams of many central universities in India as well as abroad comprises of questions which need mathematical skills to provide solutions. However, the students from Kerala, lack quantitative abilities and confidence, particularly because most of them have lost touch with mathematics at the school level. ALC is a modest effort undertaken by the Department to fill this gap. During these sessions students are taught advanced mathematical tools required for economic analysis. The best and the interested students from Bachelors’ Degree are chosen to attend these sessions.
