Seminar on Revolutionary Changes in Print Journalism by Mr. Bonny Kuriakose, Chief Sub-Editor of Malayala Manorama on 13 July

The inauguration of the Communicative English Association was held on 13 July 2015. The Chief Guest for the event was Mr. Bonny Kuriakose, Chief Sub-Editor of Malayala Manorama.After lighting the lamp and formally inaugurating the Association, Mr. Kuriakose proceeded to talk to the students about revolutionary changes in print journalism. He explained the finer aspects of journalism with special reference to the reporting and advertisements in the newspapers.

Seminar on the Techniques in Filmmaking by Mr. Arun Bose a filmmaker and the creative director, on 14 July

The session was held on 14 July 2015 for the second and third year students of Communicative English. It was conducted by Mr. Arun Bose, who won the best short film award on Climate Change at United Nations Copenhagen Climate Change Conference, Denmark, 2009 for his short film ‘My Paper Boat’. He worked as an Associate Professor – B.A. Journalism, Madras Christian College, Chennai and is a member of the Film Writer’s Association Mumbai, India.

 

Seminar on Branding and Advertising by Mr. Vivek Mohan, Kerala Brand head, Idea Network, on 15 July 2015

A talk on Branding and the various Techniques in Advertising by Mr. Vivek Mohan, Brand – Kerala Head, Idea Cellular. The session focused on branding and advertising. Mr. Vivek threw more lights on various concepts of advertising, like surrogate advertising, covert advertising and out of home advertising. Mr. Vivek also explained the structure and functioning of an ad agency.Mr. Vivek dealt with topics like the new age media for advertising. The session was an interactive approach and Mr. Vivek gave the students more insight into the recent trends in branding and advertising.

Seminar on ‘Recent Trends in Documentary Making’ by Mr. Rajendra Varman

As part of the Knowledge Fair, the Department of Communicative English organised a presentation and an interactive session on the topic, ‘Recent Trends in Documentary Making’ on 22 January 2016 at 12.30 p.m., Arts Block Auditorium, St. Teresa’s College Ernakulam.

Mr. Rajendra Varman who is currently working at Amrita Television, Kochi was the Resource Person for the session. He is also a visiting faculty for Film Making and Documentaries at K. R. Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science & Arts, Kottayam and St. Joseph College of Communication, Changanassery. 

A Documentary Competition was organised as part of the event. The result of the Documentary Competition was announced immediately after the session and cash award of Rs. 25,000/- was awarded to the best documentary.

A session on ‘Career Choices in the Field of Mass Communication and Journalism’ was conducted for the students of the department by Mr K Sai Prasad, HoD of the Marketing Communication Department of Commits Institute of Journalism & Mass Communication, Bangalore.
